The Invisible Load - Healing for the Overworked Heart

The Invisible Load: Healing for the Overworked Heart

There’s something deeply ingrained in the female psyche—a generational legacy of care, resilience, and holding everything together. We grow up watching the women before us mind everyone else—children, partners, parents, neighbours—while often putting their own needs last, if at all. We see it in ourselves now: the silent responsibility we carry, the pressure to do it all and be it all.

Many women today are not just working—they’re also raising families, running homes, checking in on aging parents, supporting friends, volunteering, managing emotional labour in relationships, and still somehow showing up with a smile. And while we may appear strong (and we are), this level of constant giving is exhausting—mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Let’s name it:
It’s burnout.
It’s emotional depletion.
It’s chronic stress disguised as being “grand.”

We’ve become masters of minimising our struggle—“Sure look, it’s just busy,” or “I’m fine, just a bit tired.” But beneath that surface is often a deep fatigue that no amount of sleep can fix. It’s the tiredness of carrying the invisible load, of never really switching off.

And this constant output of energy? It costs us.
It affects our sleep, our mood, our hormones, our digestion, our clarity. We start snapping at the people we love. We forget what we even enjoy anymore. We feel like we’re surviving life rather than living it.

And then there’s the silence around what we actually need. So many women I work with struggle to even identify their own wants, never mind express them. We’ve been conditioned to keep the peace, to not rock the boat, to “not be a burden.” Asking for help feels like failure. Saying no feels selfish. Over time, this disconnect from our own needs and holding everything in becomes normal—until it starts to manifest in frustration, resentment, and even physical symptoms in the body.

So, where do we go from here?

This is where energy therapy steps in—not as a luxury, but as a lifeline.

Energy therapy (whether it’s Reiki, Bio-Energy, EFT, (or whatever resonates with you) offers a space to reconnect with yourself, to soften, to release. It works on the subtle levels of the body, where emotions, trauma, and stress are stored—often in ways we’re not even aware of.

Sessions help bring the nervous system out of “fight or flight” and into a place of rest and repair. They help clear emotional blocks, rebalance your energy centres, and remind your body how to feel safe being still.

For many women I work with, it’s the first time they’ve allowed themselves to be nurtured without needing to explain, perform, or give anything back.

It’s not just about relaxation—it’s about restoration.

When we commit to our own wellbeing, we shift not only our own lives but the legacy we pass down to our daughters, nieces, and the young women watching us. We show them that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s sacred.

So to every woman reading this who is feeling the weight of responsibility:
You don’t have to carry it all.
You’re allowed to put it down.
You deserve to be well—not just functioning, but vibrant.

Take the time. Book the session. Say no. Take the nap. Light the candle. Let someone else mind you for a change.

You’re worth it.

With love and gentle power,

Laura
